Liaozhai Story:Yingning

Wang Zifu falls in love with Yingning, a girl whose constant, radiant laughter brightens everything. They marry, but after she uses a trick involving a scorpion-filled stump to kill a lecherous man, her mother-in-law scolds her harshly. Yingning reveals she is part fox and ghost, and from that day, she never laughs again. The story mourns how social pressure can kill a free spirit’s joy.
