Liaozhai Story:The Blind Examiner

A blind monk can judge essays by smelling their smoke. A conceited scholar’s work makes the monk vomit, yet that scholar passes the civil exam while better writers fail. The monk laments that although his eyes are blind, the examiners’ hearts are far blinder. The story is a biting satire of corrupt systems where talent is ignored and mediocrity rewarded.
